Star Wars : The Clone Wars Season 4.22 “Revenge!” Review

March 23, 2012 | No Comment |

In the fourth season finale, Obi-Wan is in real trouble while Savage Opress and Darth Maul are thirsty for blood

This installment of the show had to do with a number of fantastic Star Wars characters and it was extremely enjoyable, though there were one or two insignificant concerns.

Star Wars : The Clone Wars Season 4 Episode 22

It would be good to deal with the concerns first: The show should have provided more details regarding how Darth Maul survived. The notion that he was kept alive by his loathing and anger, energized by the Dark Aspect was definitely referred to however viewers would have loved it if one or two additional specifics were provided. The audience would have gotten that information if someone like Obi-Wan had put the question to him. Also it would be good to find out how he managed to reach the junk world from Naboo. And what happened to his bottom half – was it simply abandoned at Naboo?

Having cleared the air, it must be said that the episode was delightful. As the episode began Savage was seen taking Maul to Dathomir and those scenes were amazingly suggestive, with the planet’s red skies providing the ideal location for reconstructing the shattered Sith Lord.

It was especially interesting watching the scene where Maul was “mended” by Talzin. There was a lot of emotive imagery, particularly the manner with which Talzin wrenched some of the fear and insanity from Maul’s head. And viewing the way she created new legs for him was really moving.

A few things about the mended Maul is worth mentioning: To start with, he closely resembled the Darth Maul who survived and came back with robotic legs in Star War Comics. The producers did a wonderful job here. Also, Sam Witwer really has to be commended. He did a wonderful job trying to sound like Darth Maul in the Movie.

The episode became much more interesting in the second half, and it was amazing how much they were able to cover. Even though Darth Maul did nothing that could be described as classic in this plotline, he really showed how malevolent he was by murdering innocent children, women, and men just because he wanted to pull Obi-wan to himself.
